Today we will be discussing the emergence of political parties, the functions that they serve, and the two main parties in the US.


•Objective: Students will compare the functions and views of the two main political parties in American politics.
•Warm up 15 : “Democrat” and “Republican”: In your notebook, write words or ideas that you associate with each of these labels. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE!
•Homework: Read Chapter 5, Section 2 and take notes.

Warm up 12: What is federalism?
Homework: Quiz block on next week. Study 3.1, 3.2, 4.1

Today we finished the packet from last week about powers, analyzed two pieces of legislation, and completed a venn diagram about state, federal, and concurrent powers.

Objectives: Evaluate the major compromises made in drafting the new Constitution by reading primary sources and completing a chart. Analyze arguments made by Federalists and Anti-Federalists in the debate over ratification of the new US Constitution by analyzing primary source resources and applying the arguments to current issues.

Warm up 8: After the Articles of Confederation were adopted, George Washington complained “We are one nation today and 13 tomorrow. Who will [form treaties] with us on such terms?” What is he complaining about?
